After much deliberation, I have decided to join the throng and launch a (gasp) blog. After hosting and managing Drift Reality for the past five years, and watching it become somewhat stagnant for the past two, I have realized that it was time for a change. I have been hesitant to launch a blog for fear of pointlessly contributing to the tidal wave of global chatter that seems to be inundating the Web.

Due to a number of factors that have taken place over the past two years, not the least of which has been my return to academia for the past year and renewed faith in the potential of communication technology, I’ve decided it is a good time to start writing again. I have chosen a blog for a number of reasons:

1. After years of editing and uploading HTML documents from my home desktop, I’ve realized that I’m much more likely to write if I know I can publish in a matter of seconds.
2. Second, the RSS feed is appealing to me because I am planning on continuing to use Drift Reality as a distribution point.
3. Finally, and perhaps most importantly, I’m intrigued by the comment functionality and potential to engage and learn from visitors to the blog.

I hope it will prove to be fruitful.
