Am I Online?
Last night I was in a taxi, coming home from Dragonfly in the Dupont Circle area and the cabbie asked if I would mind if he picked up some additional fares. I didn’t really care so he scooped up a group of law students on their way to Foggy Bottom.
They were a pretty gregarious group, and one of them asked me whether or not I was online.
It was quite a strange question to me because if you run a query for “Jiyan Wei” you will see that there is a decent-sized volume of results - when you spend four years working for an interactive PR firm and running your own Web site that just sort of happens.
Not knowing exactly what to say, I just responded lamely, “Errr……”
She looked at me blankly and then specified, “Are you on Match.com?”
So being on Match.com now means you are online.
Wow.
